Looking for Florida waterfront property? You just might find a bargain in Citrus County.

Citrus County is located on the west central coast of Florida, north of Tampa and south of Ocala.

In the center of what is referred to as the "Nature Coast", Citrus County is also known as Mother Nature's Theme Park.

This section of Florida's coast is largely still undeveloped. Protected wetlands, wildlife preserves and manatee refuges occupy much of the Citrus County coast, maintaining the area much as has been for thousands of years when the native Americans settled it. In fact, the Crystal River Archaeological State Park gives the first glimpse at the earliest settlements in Citrus County. For approximately 1,600 years (200 B.C. until 1400 A.D.), people of the Deptford culture seem to have occupied this area. A 14 acre, six mound complex, one of the most imposing prehistoric ceremonial centers on Florida's west coast, is located right here in Crystal River.

Citrus County waterfront property varies from the Gulf of Mexico to Bay front property on Kings Bay to riverfront property on the Crystal River, Homosassa River, Chassahowitzka River, Withlacoochee River, and Rainbow River. Many exclusive waterfront communities can be found along Kings Bay Drive, and Fort Island Trail in Crystal River.

Further south is Ozello Trail, a long winding thread that leads through some 7 miles of wetlands and aquatic birds of every kind. As you gaze out across the saw grass it resembles the Serengeti Plains of Africa, only it is all water under the grass. Conventional waterfront homes mixed with playful stilt homes dot the water's edge.

Still further to the south is the Homosassa Trail, leading out to old Homosassa past the ruins of the old Civil War era Sugarmill. Homosassa is a colorful community of arts and crafts, festivals, shops, seafood restaurants, bars and nightlife, mixed with eco-tours during the day.

People travel the world over to come to Homosassa to experience the majestic gentle manatees that inhabit the waters of the Homosassa River. Boat rentals and snorkel tours and manatee tours where you can swim with the manatees are plentiful. Homosassa waterfront property and waterfront communities in Homosassa are numerous and off the beaten trail, you will need an experienced guide.

The east side of Citrus County is known as the "like-side". Sprinkled with lakes like Big Henderson Lake, Little Henderson Lake an the Tsala Apopka Lake chain, the town of Inverness has some of the best lake front property in Citrus County Florida. The bass fishing in Inverness is excellent and waterfront residents enjoy endless boating, canoing, kayaking, and swimming. There is even a professional speedboat race in Inverness each year.

The Realtors at Realty Select can direct you to the many Inverness waterfront communities including Pritchard Island and Gospel Island as well as any of the waterfront properties on Citrus County Florida.
