Situated at the southern tip of Citrus County Florida in the town of Homosassa, Sugarmill Woods is a special community by any standards.
Designed with nature in mind, Sugarmill Woods was the first development to incorporate the "green belt" concept.
Instead of each lot backing up to another lot, each piece of property is separated by a natural buffer or green belt of natural forest and vegetation.

Thus giving every resident a little piece of unspoiled nature around the house.
Even the private Sugarmill Woods Golf and County Club embraced this green belt concept. Instead of leveling the property and then building the Sugarmill Woods Golf Course up, designer Ron Garl, Florida's foremost golf course architect, chose to work with the natural lie of the land, incorporating hills and gullies into the course itself. Later in 1992, another 18 holes of golf was added along with a second clubhouse and restaurant.

This additional, semi-private golf course too was to incorporate nature into the design this time by three time U.S. Open Champion, Hale Irwin.
The Sugarmill Woods community consists of two sections Cypress Village and Oak Village with the a newer third section, Southern Woods added more recently.
Each community within Sugarmill Woods is more impressive then the last, with swimming pools, tennis courts, spas, fitness facilities, walking trails, fine dining, pro shops, and more.

The homes are newer and impressive with award winning builders as the premier builders.
The name Sugarmill Woods was inspired by the old sugar cane mill ruins located in nearby Homosassa.
